A gorgeous cover. A western Canadian setting. A protagonist who doesn’t remember what happened to her. Count. Me. In.

Books set in Canada always hit a little harder for the simple fact that I can relate that much more to them; seeing character’s refer to Tim Hortons’ and their red cups, Jasper National Park and “klicks” to refer to miles/kilometres (much like my father) all made me smile. The set-up to this book is great too: Cleo wakes up not knowing where or who she is; her quest for answers sets off a chain of discoveries that keep the pages turning. I loved that Cleo (although you don’t learn her name until later) isn’t a typical damsel in distress; in fact she has a hard time leaning on people around her, especially in her vulnerable state. I also loved her “redeveloping” relationship with her brother, Cass. Their love (and sometimes arguing like siblings do) for each other was a highlight. Wong also makes some great social commentary, giving cultural details in Cantonese language, family dynamics, and bisexual representation in Cass. Cleo’s feelings of being lost and not recognizing herself are reflected in the feeling of “other” that is presented throughout the book. This made it more than a regular suspense book. My only complaint is the vague ending - although I don’t need everything wrapped up in a neat bow, I felt like there were still a number of questions I wanted to know the answer to.

In The Dark We Forget is a psychological suspense of family, lost memories, uncertainty, the choices we make and the love we share. I definitely recommend picking it up! Thank you to @harpercollinsca for the ARC!

Posted @withregram • @ckuaradio Since bursting onto the literary scene with her debut novel nearly a decade ago, Alberta author Sandra SG Wong @sgwong8 has been crafting captivating tales that put her own very personal spin on the classic crime fiction genre.

Being touted as "a hair-raising high-wire act," #InTheDarkWeForget hit bookstore shelves on June 21st via HarperCollins Canada. A taut tale about amnesia, identity, family, and a a $47 million winning lottery ticket, the novel's action is set mainly in Sandra's hometown of Edmonton, as well as Yoho National Park (along with what's described as "a shout-out to Lethbridge").

Sandra joins @StovelGrant to tell us all about her brand-new thriller, as well as the importance of broadening the perspectives offered up in crime fiction Canadiana, Thursday June 23 at 8:45am MT. Tune in! ⬆️⬆️⬆️

📖My thoughts📖
Wow! What a twisted tale! The fact that the main character wakes up first thing at the start of the book suffering from amnesia makes the storyline that much more clenching! It only adds to the mystery of it all. I love that this book had me guessing right up until the very end, holding my attention the entire time. This is a must read! I tore through this one feeling as though I couldn’t read fast enough! If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, go snap yourself a copy of this gem! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
